Nucleoplasty is a minimally invasive, image-guided therapy used to treat back pain and leg pain caused by herniated discs. During nucleoplasty, image guidance is used to remove a small amount of disc tissue to relieve pressure on the nerves to help reduce pain and restore mobility.

The Nucleoplasty procedure is done under the influence of partial anesthesia, the Neurosurgeon inserts a thin needle through the back and into the herniated disc (x-ray control is used to guide the needle to the required spot). A small radiofrequency probe is inserted through the needle and into the disc, followed by the removal of some amount to relieve the pressure.
