These disorders occur when a group of syndromes occurs to disrupt the normal metabolic processes of the body. The normal metabolic process consists of two mechanisms namely anabolism and catabolism. Certain chemical reactions in the body can lead to changes in any of the two processes. These disorders create a metabolic block that causes a build-up of toxic molecules inside the body. - Glucose-Galactose Malabsorption: It is characterized by intolerance of glucose, galactose, sucrose, and lactose.
- Menkes Syndrome: It is a congenital metabolic disorder where the loss of copper absorption by the cells leads to this disease.
- Phenylketonuria: It is caused by a deficiency of the phenylalanine hydroxylase enzyme. It can result in retardation, organ damage, and complications during pregnancy.
- Lesch Nyhan Syndrome: It is an inherited metabolic disorder that occurs from impaired metabolism of purines that are an integral part of DNA and RNA.
- Maple Syrup Urine Disease: It is related to the urine of distinct odour and caused by incomplete metabolism of amino acids.
- Lysosomal Storage Disease: It is a state of incomplete degradation of catabolic compounds.
