For many patients, finding specialised cancer care can be challenging when experienced oncologists are not readily available locally. To help bridge this gap, Vaidam Health, in association with Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, India, organised an OPD consultation camp in Freetown, giving patients the opportunity to seek expert medical advice closer to home.

The consultation camp was held on 17th and 18th February at Freetown International Hospital, located on Beach Road opposite the Golf Club. Patients had the opportunity to consult Dr. Prasad Eswaran, a senior cancer specialist with over 22 years of experience at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, India.

Expert Cancer Consultation

During the camp, Dr. Eswaran consulted patients with various cancer-related concerns. His areas of expertise include the management and treatment of brain cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, metastatic cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer.

Through one-on-one consultations, he guided patients on understanding their diagnosis, possible treatment options, and the next steps for managing their condition. His experience in advanced cancer care helped patients gain clearer insights into their health concerns and available treatment options.

Encouraging Patient Participation

The consultation camp saw participation from people across Freetown and nearby areas. Over the course of the camp, 22 patients attended to seek expert advice regarding cancer symptoms, ongoing treatments, or concerns about their diagnosis.

For many patients, the camp provided a valuable opportunity to speak directly with an experienced oncologist and receive guidance to help them make treatment decisions. Patients reported that the consultation provided clarity and reassurance about their health.

Improving Access to Specialist Care

Initiatives such as specialist consultation camps play an important role in improving access to expert healthcare. By bringing experienced doctors closer to communities, such programs organised by Vaidam Health allow patients to receive timely medical advice.

Through such initiatives, Vaidam Health continues to connect patients with experienced specialists and improve access to timely cancer care.
