An communicative conference was held at our Vaidam office recently. This was conducted by one of the leading cosmetologist and plastic surgeon, Dr. Charu Sharma. She did her MBBS from IMS-BHU, MS in General surgery, M.Ch. in Plastic Surgery, and International training in various cosmetic surgery procedures. She has received a gold medal in plastic surgery. In the meeting, she briefed us about all the surgeries from head to toe, that are done in her office.

 

SCALP

Starting from hair transplant, there are various applications including:

  • Androgenetic alopecia

  • Eyebrow transplant

  • Frontal hairline lowering or reconstruction (naturally high hairlines without an existing hair   loss condition)

The hair transplant involves a combination of various treatment including

  • PRP(platelet-rich plasma) therapy
  • Hair growth medicines
  • Surgical treatment.

The average cost of hair transplant in India is around 35000-85000 INR depending upon the extent of baldness.

 

EYES AND EYEBROWS

Dr. Sharma also briefed about surgeries related to eyebrows such as brow lift and browpexy. This helps in improvement of position of eyebrows and reduction of wrinkles. The procedure costs around  2500 USD on an average. Also,eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is done to reduce drooping of the skin of lower eyelids and remove excess skin from upper eyelids. This is mostly done to enhance the esthetics, but it may also help in improving the eyesight of elder people. The average cost is approximately 1500 USD.

 

FACE

Other facial surgeries include facelift, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, cheek implants etc.

Facelift surgeries involve reduction of excess fat from the facial skin and tightening of the skin. It is usually done to reduce wrinkling of the face. It is also known as rhytidectomy. Average cost is 3000-4000 USD, depending on the area covered.

Rhinoplasty- it is the procedure involving correction and reconstruction of the shape of the nose. This is done for medical purposes such as breathing problems as well as for esthetic reasons. The minimum price for rhinoplasty in India is around 5000 USD.

Chin augmentation- this is done to correct the shape of the chin. It is usually done to cause protrusion of the chin. It is carried out either by inserting chin implants or by reshaping the chin bone.

Cheek implants- this is a surgical procedure in which implants are inserted in the cheek area to enhance the cheeks. It usually ranges from 2000-3000 USD. Three types of cheek augmentation is done according to the shape desired; malar, submalar and combined.

 

BREAST

Other than the facial surgeries, there are breast surgeries, which consist of breast reduction and breast augmentation.

Breast reduction- This is done to reduce the size and weight of the heavy breasts. Most of the time, this is done for esthetic purpose and to boost the self esteem of women. In some cases, it is also suggested to get rid of back pain, neck pain or headache. It is also done in males to treat gynecomastia. The process involves giving an incision in the bust line and removing the extra tissue.

This is followed by reshaping and re-contouring of the breast. Finally the suturing is done. The cost starts from 3000 USD.

Breast augmentation- this is also referred to augmentation mammoplasty. This is done to enhance the size of the breast and improve its shape. Usually, done in women who have been surgically treated for cancer or those with some congenital defects. Some might also get it done for improvement in the physical appearance. Either silicone implants or fat grafts are used for breast augmentation. This surgery ranges from 75,000 to 1 lac INR in India.

 

OTHERS

In addition to this, there are surgeries to reduce fat from other areas of the body. This is done by liposuction. The process involves removing fat cells from the body in an attempt to change its shape. Liposuction may be power-assisted or ultrasound assisted. It costs around 1500-3000 USD in India. The process is usually performed on hips, thighs, abdomen and arms.

Dr. Sharma discussed few points about full body LASER treatment and skin whitening.

She explained how full body LASER works to reduce or eliminate body hair permanently without any pain or discomfort to the patient. She gave an estimate of 1.70 lakhs INR for 8-9 sessions of the treatment. For skin whitening, she said that, these days glutathione injections are widely used to bring a glow on the skin and accomplish overall whitening.

Additionally, the cosmetologist passionately works on victims of burns and acid attacks. As per her, it is possible to recover from post-burn injuries of the body and impressions of acid attacks.

To bring to an end, it can be deduced that cosmetology cannot entirely change you from head to toe. However,it  helps to be a better version of yourself and give a boost to your self-esteem.
