• For the very first time Apollo Hospitals, Chennai has performed the new cardiac surgery procedure of Minimally Invasive Hybrid Revascularisation (MIHR) on 57-year-old man suffering from triple coronary artery block and improve the organ's blood flow.
  • The procedure is a combination of minimally invasive CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting) and angiography.
  • According to minimally invasive cardiac surgeon, Dr M M Yusuf, the technique of MIHR provides numerous advantages to the doctor as well as the patient:
    • The heart does not require to be stopped.
    • With a high definition camera and monitor, known as thoracoscope, only a small incision is done in between the ribs without cutting open the breastbone.
    • While the block in the main vessel is removed through a bypass surgery, the angiography stenting helps to maintain the blood flow again.
    • Excessive bleeding is avoided theough this procedure, so blood transfusions are not required.
    • Tissue trauma is negligible guaranting faster recoveries and the patient had to stay for only a few days at the hospital.
  • The patient's condition is now stable and on the road to recovery.
