How Long is Recovery from Liposuction?

Liposuction is an elective cosmetic procedure to get rid of that stubborn unwanted fat. In this, the doctor 

removes fat cells from a specific site of the body with the help of a small instrument.

It is a simple, outpatient procedure, meaning the patient can go home the same day as surgery. That said, it's essential to understand that your individual recovery time will vary. The fat reduction plan will be tailored according to the needs of patient's goals and preferences. 

Because of this, liposuction recovery will be unique for every individual. For example, if we remove a large amount of fat from different parts of your body, it will probably take you longer to recover than if you remove a small amount from one area.

Liposuction Recovery Stages- 

• Immediately following surgery - Your doctor will use compression garments to put pressure on the surgical area. The process of applying compression garments is not uncomfortable since the operated area will be anesthetized during surgery.

• A few hours post-surgery - The anesthesia will start to wear off after a couple of hours and some moderate discomfort will begin.
  
  The pain level depends on the area where you have liposuction
  
  Even though Liposuction is an outpatient surgery, it is recommended that you stay overnight at the hospital so that your doctor can observe any fluid changes and dehydration.

• 3 to 5 days post-surgery - You’ll have to make a visit to your doctor to get the garments removed and they’ll assess the operated area.

• The first week and beyond - Your doctor will advise you to do a gentle massage to move around accumulated fluid, smoothing over the area.

There are several things that you can do to speed up your recovery, such as:

• Walk around - To keep the blood flowing as it will help recover faster.

• Apply ice - Icing the areas of liposuction will help ease any discomfort.

• Take anti-inflammatory - It will help with pain relief.
