Cardiovascular disease is increasingly becoming a major health burden in Sub-Saharan Africa, and cases of congenital heart diseases also seem to escalate in the upcoming years. There are ongoing efforts to treat children with these conditions. However, due to limited access to healthcare, patients tend to incline more towards other countries.
India has become one of those countries that offers reliable and affordable healthcare. With the same mindset, a couple from Gambia also visited India for the treatment of their child.
Mr. Musa Jabbi and Ms. Fatoumatta Dampha were looking to get their baby treated in India, and that's when they found out about us.
They posted a response on our website; recognizing the urgency, we immediately assigned them a case manager. Our team explained the overall process, which includes consultation with the doctor, treatment plan and cost estimation, visa and travel arrangements, and accommodation arrangements.
The couple decided to fly to India with Baby Fathima, who was around 9-10 months old then. The consultation was arranged with Dr. Rajesh Sharma, a Pediatric Cardiologist with over 30 years of experience.
After a thorough evaluation of the baby, the doctor suggested that the best possible option would be to get her a VSD Closure Surgery, with over 80 to 90% chance of survival.
The surgery took around 9-10 hours and was successfully carried out at Marengo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad. The baby was put in a NICU for a week.
The family spent about two months in India and was very grateful to Dr. Rajesh and his team. They also thanked the case manager, who didn't let them lose hope.
We hope baby Fathima recovers soon and enjoys her new life!
