- Two girls, one is 15 years old Matla Sindhuja and another is 13 years old Merugu Vaishnavi underwent successful cadaver liver transplant in a span of 5 days.
- Matla suffered from Wilson disease, autoimmune disease, a genetic disorder causing excess copper accumulation in the liver which necessitated the cadaver liver transplantation.
- The youngster received a cadaver liver through Jeevandan organ donation initiative and underwent liver transplant surgery on February 22.
- Merugu Vaishnavi was diagnosed with chronic liver failure due to autoimmune liver disease and underwent successful cadaver liver transplantation on 27th of February.
- The 11-year old child who was declared brain dead in a corporate hospital gave a liver for donation to Merugu.
- Osmania Hospital, Superintendent, Dr. B Nagendar said “ It was tough to conduct such complex surgeries within a short period of time. However, the doctor’s team and other caregivers at OGH are highly experienced and I appreciate all their efforts during this surgery”.
