Even after undergoing a penetrating keratoplasty for his prolonged corneal condition, Anteneh Fatahunegn Beyene from Ethiopia was not relieved. Suffering from epithelial defect for over a year, he ventured for other medical options and came to India for his eye treatment. After a satisfactory treatment, Mr. Beyene shares how his medical trip experience has been in India:
Which eye treatment did the doctor suggest you in India?
I consulted Dr. Bhupesh Singh at Bharti Eye Hospital in Delhi. He suggested that I would require a corneal transplant in my left eye as I had an epithelial defect.
You have undergone a keratoplasty before. What went wrong?
Yes, I did undergo a penetrating keratoplasty before but somehow it did not work out. The corneal problem has been there for a long time. Back in Ethiopia when I went for a treatment the doctor said that due to damage in the cornea I would require a penetrating keratoplasty. During the procedure, the entire cornea of my left eye was replaced by a donor graft but the surgery might not have been properly done. After six months of the surgery, I experienced a consistent degeneration in my vision along with excessive tearing. I was confused. I thought the treatment was supposed to better the condition of my eye whereas I experienced just the opposite.
How was the treatment here in India?
It was good. Dr. Singh told me that I would have to undergo a transplant again as there has been deterioration in the outermost layer of the cornea. I must say that the revision cornea transplant has been much better because the tearing has effectively stopped and my vision has started to improve gradually. There is no irritation in my eyes anymore and I am happy. Bharti Eye Hospital is an excellent destination for ophthalmology treatments and is one of the best cornea treatment hospitals in India. It incorporates all the latest equipment required for an advanced diagnosis followed by treatment. I am grateful to Dr. Singh for relieving me from this stressful ordeal that I was going through for about a year now.
How did you get to know about Bharti Eye Hospital?
Vaidam Health helped me out in consulting with the hospital and the doctor. My case manager suggested that I should go to Bharti Eye Hospital as it is one of the best eye hospitals in India and they are so right about it. I really think that I did the right thing in enquiring about my medical condition in their website because they are ones who showed me the right path.
What else did Vaidam help you with?
Vaidam has helped me with everything that I required for my medical trip to India. They provided me with the best cornea transplant surgeon in India and hospital, cost of the treatment, guided me in visa application. They were always in touch with me. In spite of the fact that this is my first visit, I didn’t have to worry about where I am going to stay, how I will find the hospital or my schedule of appointment with the doctor. They guided me and helped me throughout and I am extremely thankful to them.
