Apart from the several muscle functions in our legs, the act of walking incorporates smooth functioning of the joints present in our hip, knee and ankle. Hip joint, specifically, provides us with the agility to walk, sit or bend. But with age, cartilages of the joints wear away, restricting its movement, making it brittle and leading to diseases like osteoarthritis. Ismail Yusuf from Fiji experienced the same conditions. Exercise and medicine did not help to curb the pain as day by day he had to depend more on an external support.
“The X-ray reports showed that one of my hip joints had roughened and were devoid of any cartilage. Over the years, the pain had also increased. I had to be extremely cautious to even sit down or take a step as it used to hurt a lot. It was really stressful because I knew that if I do not undergo a treatment now, it will be too late and I may completely lose the ability to make any movement on my own”.
After searching for quite some time on the internet for a proper medical solution, Yusuf came across Vaidam Health’s website. “My case manager at Vaidam, suggested me with multiple renowned orthopedic hospitals for hip replacement in India and finally I narrowed down on Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) in New Delhi where I consulted Dr. Vivek Mahajan".
After a detailed scrutiny and evaluation of Yusuf’s medical reports, Dr. Mahajan suggested affordable total hip replacement surgery in India. “I was completely for Dr. Mahajan’s suggestion but what troubled me was the implant that was to be used and whether the length of my leg will be same as before. But he told me that I need not worry about the implants as they are FDA approved and contains substantial durability and flexibility. He assured me that the length of my leg will be restored during the surgery and within a week or so, I will be able to walk”.
After spending four or five days in the hospital, Yusuf was relieved off the pain he had to undergo for so long a time. “I am happy that the surgery is successful. The pain has evidently reduced. The physiotherapy sessions were helpful. I thought that it would take me at least a month to stand on my feet again but only after a few days post surgery I was able to take steps. It was wonderful. Indian Spinal Injuries Centre is an excellent hospital for orthopedic treatment that does not only include an advance medical infrastructure but also very attentive and organized staffs, doctors and patient care team”.
He also added, “I would also like to also pay my heartiest gratitude to the team of Vaidam. This medical trip would have been much difficult without their assistance. The team has not only guided me towards the best orthopedic doctor in India but also made sure that I was fully aware of the expenses of the treatment and the accommodation I would stay in before I started my journey. Their sense of promptness and responsibility is commendable. From airport pick up to accompanying to the hospital, assisting to handle the medical bills and hospital formalities, they have provided me with all their support. Such an amiable and efficient team is rare to find”.
