• After feeling a slight initial numbness in his right arm, 32-year-old Ahmed Othman lost sensation in his hands and limbs.
  • Within six 6 months he experienced a gradual loss of mobility and was bounded to a wheelchair.
  • An intermedullary cervical spine tumor was spotted in his MRI scan that later led him to experience imbalance and lack of coordination.
  • Because of the absence of specialized treatment in his home country, Yemen, he went to SUT Hospital in Pattom with the help of one of his acqaintances there.
  • In a 10 hour surgery the team of neurologists led by senior consultant neurosurgeon Dr. Ajith R. Nair extracted the tumor located inside the spinal cord successfully.
  • Advanced methods of Surface Sensory Evoked Potential (SSEP), Motor Evoked Potential (MEP) and direct waves (D waves) was performed during the surgery along with multiple monitoring.    
  • Physiotherapy sessions post surgery helped Othman to walk taking aid of a stick or walker.
  • Stable improvement has been witnessed in his movement.
