An abscess pelvic treatment is a pocket of infected fluid and pus which is being located inside the belly region this pus can also be seen located near the liver, pancreas, kidneys or any other body organs.
Abscess in pelvis is mainly caused due to the repeated complication of infection in the lower genitals including pelvic inflammatory disease some other causes of abscess in pelvis are some procedures like hysterectomy, laparotomies, caesarian section and induced abortion.
Some of the symptoms of abscess in pelvis are sharp and dull pain in one area of belly which may become worse with time and the pain. You may have pain in your back, shoulder and chest region along with swollen belly, diarrhea, fever, lack of appetite, weight loss.
Abscess in pelvis is being diagnosed by CBC examination, abdominal x –ray, ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis, CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis, MRI of abdomen and pelvis.
The abscess is being treated with antibiotics, pus drainage or by both methods. First antibiotics is being given for upto 4 to 6 weeks. You will be given antibiotics intravenously or at home also. Abscess is needs to be drained using a needle and a drain, a needle will be put through your skin into the abscess. The sample of the abscess will be sent to the laboratory and the drain is left in abscess for draining out the pus. In some cases the drain is kept for few days or weeks till the abscess can get better.
Sometimes surgery is being done for treating the abscess. Surgery is needed if the abscess cannot be reached out safely using a needle. In surgical removal of abscess a cut is being made in the belly area, and then the surgeon clean and drain the abscess and at last drain is put in abscess which stays till the abscess get better.
Some of the complications of abscess pelvis treatment are abscess may not drain fully, it may recur and can cause severe illness and bloodstream infection or the infection can spread.
