Cost of IVF Treatment in India

After such an exceptional medical innovation, the demand for IVF treatments has increased and so has their cost. It is because of this reason couples from all over the world are opting for their treatment in countries where the prices are lesser. India is one country that has been successful in the treatment of IVF at cheapest rates without altering its quality.

How much does IVF cost in India?
The cost of IVF starts from USD 2,500 in India which may go up to USD 5,000 according to the complexity of the case, the quality and experience of the doctor and the clinic.
The complexities may involve the couple’s age, their health problems and the count of eggs and sperms. In such a case doctors may recommend you ICSI, PESA, TESA or frozen embryo transfer (FET). The cost of the treatment, therefore, increases by USD 500 approximately. In case of donor egg, the cost may go up by USD 1000 approximately.
If the couple is unable to present medical records, then an initial investigation of about USD 300 is carried on which includes tests and other diagnosis for a better understanding of the couple’s medical condition.
The couple has to spend only three to four hours in the clinic or the hospital for their treatment. The total time that they would require for the whole treatment to complete is approximately 3-5 weeks for which they have to stay in their hotel accommodation which may cost between USD 20 and USD 35.
Internationally, the cost of IVF treatment ranges between USD 15,000 and USD 25,000 which is more than three times the price that is charged by Indian doctors and hospitals.

What are the different IVF procedures?
ICSI
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection or ICSI is one of the methods of conceiving a baby by IVF. The procedure involves the introduction of a single sperm by injecting it directly into an egg. It is recommended when there is low sperm count.
PESA
PESA or percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration is another form of IVF that involves the collection of sperms from the epididymis by the use of a fine syringe.
TESA
The sperm can also be collected from the testicles by the process of TESA or testicular sperm aspiration in case PESA doesn’t work.
FET
Frozen embryo transfer or FET is a process in which the frozen embryos from a previous IVF are thawed to transfer it back into a woman’s uterus. Patients go for FET only when they plan to have another baby in the near future.
Donor’s Egg
IVF can also be performed by a donor’s egg. A donor’s egg is that which is donated to egg banks only to be used during IVF.

Oocyte retrieval, also referred to as transvaginal oocyte retrieval (TVOR), is simply the technique to remove an egg cell from the ovary of the female to fertilize outside the body.

Variable charges in different hospitals
The cost of the IVF treatment varies in different hospitals and clinics. The more exclusive the hospital, the more will be its charges.
Cost of the doctors
If the hospitals charge according to their exclusivity and the availability of modern medical instruments and technologies, how can the doctors be left out. So, the more the qualification and experience of the doctors, the more will be his or her charge.
Complicated health
The health and age of the couple also escalates the cost of the treatment. If they have any diseases like HIV or Hepatitis B and C or have some pre-genetic disorder then the cost of the treatment will be effectively more than it actually is.
IVF pregnancy has become really popular both amongst younger and older couples. The prominent IVF success rates over the years have led couples to opt for it more and more.
